JavaPosse Roundup 2008 - Day #2

Session #1 - Find/reuse web APIs (I was the organizer)
In the early happy days of JAVA there was RMI, and in order to find and discover services you use to connect to a server and ask for the available services.
Now, in the new world where some (like Tim O.) claims that the web is the new OS and the websites APIs are the components we need to use in order to build new tools and services.
How can we find and discover these APIs?

* One good place to start and reuse web APIs will be: Pipes and another more doc style is gotapi
* AMF - Adobe Message Format - I know it's not part of the topic but I remember we spoke about it quite a bit ;)
* Jboss DNA - is another example to discovering APIs.
* CMS in Java/Php and all around the open source community.
* What will be better - Binary XML format or keep up with json?

Session #2 - Networking for Geeks (Dianne Marsh)

* User groups meetings (specially, with food and beers and not just 'classic' power point and go home).
* Working in few (or more then few) companies and just find the telnet people you wish to be connected with.
* Social skills (e.g. marketing/sales persons) are very important to learn new technologies and to know people that are able to help you with: code, career, ideas, funding etc'
* Networking: VCs, Angles, incubators.
* Borden your horizon and learn new things...
* Virtual meetings (e.g. webEx, Tiffany screens).
