It is COLD! (-20C)
Beside that, lots of very interesting people with lots of knowledge.
Todays topics (that I've been in) are:
1. How startup should avoid 'known' mistakes (Chris Adamson):
* Bring QA far too late to the game. If you don't working with Scurm/XP/Agile you should :) but nevertheless, even in the classic waterfall (Gannt) type of project you want them part of the process in the early stages on the design.
* Hire Sale/Marketing long before that have work do to. Base, on experience that in b2b startups the C level is in most of the times doing this kind of work in the first x months.
* Hire the 'right' people. That's one of the hardest thing.
Network? friends? who you wish will join you company?
* Focus - Focus - Focus. You are in a speed boat and you do not want to waste the 'engine power' (which is very limited at the early days) on directions that are not keeping you momentum.
lots more... but I'll need to dig in my papers...
2. UI / experience and how to do it right (Joe Nuxoll)
* Do you want to do us
er-tests before version 4.0? (Apple say no! and that's something to think about!)* What RIA we think is doing a good job in terms of 'experience'?
IMHO, apple, flickr and gmail.
Clean, 'simple' tools that drive the user to the place she want to be.
* Flex, JavaFX - what is working when it is coming to build a 'cool' web app? When do we want to use animation -> to show the user that we move from A to B. However, in lots of cases it need to be fast and not 'irritating'.
